The Lights Come Up For Friday Night

A short season has come to a climactic point. The Ambassador boys of fall are defending their 3 time Central Sierra League Championship. This time their nemesis is not in blue and Lantis Field will host the fateful event.

Ambassadors take their highest ranking yet, number 8 in CA, into the Championship game defending their title and an undefeated season. Their formidable opponents, the King Christian Crusaders are ranked 12 in CA after losing to the Ambassadors by 2 in the last regular season game. The last game featured 4 lead changes, 3 in the 2nd half, in a contest that wasn't decided until the Ambassdors forced QB Hurt to fumble the ball with 1:03 left in the game.

The maroon and gold Crusaders brought an undefeated record of their own to the table last week and would like nothing better than to take revenge on the Ambassadors. They'll try to do so with RB Hudson who had averaged 180 yards this season. The Ambassadors trimmed his yardage back, but only to 115 yards. The Ambassadors went to the air, but Travis Hemman definately got into the act  racking up 156 on the ground. The crescendo promises to be deafening this Friday.

What: Central Sierra League (8 man) Championship
Where: Lantis Field on the campus of Riverdale Christian Academy

2011-12 Begins! Oh Yeah!

Fall. I love everything about it. Temperatures going back to the comfortable zone, colors on the trees and... RCA goes back to the field and court.

RCA FOOTBALL

The Ambassadors are poised to defend back to back to back championships agaignst a new-look  Central Sierra League. The boys in blue, the Clovis Wildcats are gone (hopefully back in a few years). I know, sad. Really. Last year's rematch was the most excitement the CSL had seen in three years.

The Guardians from Lighthouse Christian of Bakersfield (now Northwest Christian) who were twice CSL Champions (06-07, 07-08) look to return to former glory filling the big blue hole in our bleeding red hearts. Kings Christian returns to the CSL, ready to forget last years performance against the Ambassadors, a 61-16 romp that left the Crusaders with a dissapointing return (3-2 league, 4-6 overall) to 8-man football.

Ever-ready Faith Christian of Coalinga returns with promising talent. Harvey  and Vander Mel will try a repeat performance of record seasons last year and get the Warriors their first winning season. The Buffaloes will be back also looking for a winning season. They'll be up on bumpy road where they've put together a difficult non-league schedule. The carnival is Saturday. September 3rd. Riverdale's first opponent will be Shandon on the road, Saturday, September 17th. For a full league schedule go here. Stoked! Bring on Canoga! (Was that out loud?) Seriously, two home games aren't going to cut it, but at least they are at the end of the season with teams that should be in the hunt come November.
RCA loses fullback and linebacker Whited. His absence will definitely be felt in team leadership and heart as well as blocking and power running. Jose Cruz is also gone. He had become very reliable at corner and a decent turnover threat. Just as important will be his soccer style kicking skills. That vacuum is hard to fill and very important on the 80 yard field. RB Hemman, QB Davis, RB and WR Martinez, WR Goad  and FB Escalante will keep intact most of a talented offensive backfield.C McMillan, LG Steele and RG Romero bring experience back to the offensive line.
Defensively, the Ambassadors will be searching for new leadership and strength at middle linebacker. Holes at the corner will have the Ambassadors coaches looking for answers to the pass. New blood will be needed to spell talent that goes both ways at the line of scrimmage. Ok, 'nuff 'bout the gridiron.

RCA Volleyball

Must admit I'm new to volleyball terms, but I figure you are too, so we'll learn together. Talented spiker Spencer graduated last year along with heater Kaur. Setters Casey and Tucker also left the court for good. The team looks to fill voids with new talent in middle hitters with Goad.Last year Teucher showed some raw skill at the net as a blocker and Coach Whited hopes to develop hitting ability. Most importantly, Spencer provided team leadership and the team will need to develop leadership in her absence.

RCA Sports Radio

We will be back on the net this year hopefully carrying more games. First, we will replay the CSL Championship game at 6:00pm Monday, September 12th!

Check back with my blog to see more times. Catch a game, catch the spirit at RCA this year!
